Severe weather can happen any time of year. Taking preparation steps today can help protect you and your loved ones tomorrow.
- Review your emergency plan regularly
- Know what to do to be safe around power lines
- Do what you can to stay safe in your home when the weather hits
All Weather
- Bring pets indoors; if they can’t come inside, make sure they have shelter and access to clean water.
Hot Weather
- Drink plenty of water when it’s hot. Stay hydrated and avoid drinks with caffeine and alcohol to help stay cool.
- Locate cooling centers. Find cooling centers near you to stay cool during the hottest days.
- Plan activity for when it’s coolest. Be strategic about tackling physical activities (like housework or exercise) early in the morning or later in the evening.
Cold Weather
- Wear layers when it’s cold outside. Heavy, warm material and layers of clothing will help keep you warmer. Gloves, hats and heavy socks may also help prevent your skin from getting too cold.
